To give swimmers in the Jellie Park Swimming Programme who are new to competitive swimming the opportunity to gain a positive racing experience by participating in the Splash Nights.
Swimmers are not disqualified at Splash Nights, if there is a problem in the way that they swam a race this will be explained to the swimmer so they learn from the experience and do not make the same error in the future. Older swimmers who know better will incur time penalties.
Splash Nights also give the opportunity to see how the swimmers are performing their strokes and skills away from the general training and assessment situation. Over the years the performance standards have increased greatly reflecting in the continued good performances of the Jasi Swim Team.
All races are seeded on swimmers abilities, swimmers are encouraged to focus on their own performance, be the best swimmer in their lane!
The final results are not known until the last swim of the event so all swimmers have to do the best performance they can to get one of the top finishing places where there are points and prizes to be won in their age groups for boys and girls in each event on the night. Points add up over the 4 splash nights towards the trophy and prize money for top boy and girl in each age group.
We hope that all swimmers enjoy the Splash Night experience.
Splash Nights are held approximately every 12 weeks. The start of each event will be controlled by the starter and follow standard race starting procedure. At the end of the race stay in your lane until told to exit the water by an official. Swimmers should perform the appropriate stroke for the entire distance of each event. While encouraging good technique and a good standard of swimming, disqualification's will be imposed as a time penalty of 1.5 secs for each infringement. Within each event all swimmers times are recorded. Results of the event within each age groups are determined by the times of the swimmers in the event. Ribbons are awarded to each of the top 3 performers in each event, male and female in each age group.
The Splash Night begins with a 20 min warm up time. Swimmers use this time warming up and practicing the strokes, turns and dives for the nights events.
When the pool is cleared, swimmers participating in the first event should go to the marshalling area where they will be organised by the marshal and directed to their lane where the timekeepers will confirm who they are and they are in the correct lane.
As the swimmers race approaches the swimmers will be signalled by the officials to get on the block or in the water before following the commands of the starter to begin your race.
